Loved NASCAR back in the late 80s-early 90s. They got too big for
their britches, with ticket prices going through the roof (thanks, Bruton Smith, for your greedy PSL concept), and taking races away from tracks that built the sport (N. Wilkesboro & Rockingham) and moving those races to cookie-cutter tracks in places where NASCAR was almost unheard of. The "Chase for the Championship" was an attempt to compete with the NFL. It failed miserably. I knew that when they began to air ads for Bristol night race tickets, the downslide had begun. I once went to as many as 10 races a year, and religiously watched all other races on TV - even the Busch. Today, I couldn't even tell you who won the championship in 2021.
